The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus

“The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus” is most commonly known as Heath Ledger’s last screen appearance, but it is not simply that. With actors such as Johnny Depp, Colin Farrell and Jude Law coming in to fill Ledger’s role, the movie, set in the present day, tells us about 1,000-year old Doctor Parnassus and his “Imaginarium”, a magical theatre troupe that gives its audience more than they expect; the opportunity to choose between light and darkness.

The movie, however, does not limit itself to the theatre troupe’s deeds, but also to Parnassus’s personal life, and with that, his darkest secret. Long ago, the doctor made a bet with the Devil, Mr. Nick, and having won, was granted immortality. Upon meeting his one true love, centuries later, again he made a deal with the Devil, trading his immortality for eternal youth, on the condition that when his first-born turned 16, she were given to him. Now that Valentina (Lily Cole), Parnassus’s daughter, is about to turn 16, the doctor is desperate to protect her from her impending fate. When Mr. Nick comes to claim his end of the bargain, they strike one last wager to see who, in the end, will be the keeper of Parnassus’s beloved daughter.

The movie is scheduled for theatrical release on June 6th, 2009. I’m anxious to see it!

“The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus” é um filme mais conhecido por ser o último filme de Heath Ledger, por mais que esse não tenha completado seu papel. Com atores como Johnny Depp, Colin Farrell e Jude Law preenchendo o restante do papel de Ledger, o filme, passado no presente, conta a história sobrenatural do Doutor ‘Parnassus’, um mágico de mais de 1,000 anos, e seu “Imaginarium”, um grupo de artistas que apresentam à sua platéia mais do que é esperado.

Entretanto, o filme não se limita apenas à história do teatro mágico, mas sim, também, ao passado de Parnassus e sua influência no presente. Há muito tempo, o doutor fizera uma aposta com o Demônio, “Mr. Nick”, e venceu, ganhando então a imortalidade. Muitos anos depois, quando o mágico conheceu seu verdadeiro amor, ele fez mais um acordo com Mr. Nick, trocando sua imortalidade pela juventude, e em troca, oferecendo seu primogênito ao demônio assim que esse atingisse os 16 anos. Agora que Valentina, a filha de Parnassus está beirando a idade limite, Parnassus se desespera e faz um novo acordo com o demônio para ver quem, a final, ficará com Valentina.

A estréia teatral mundial do filme será no dia 6 de Junho de 2009. Estamos anciosos!

Elena Glurdjidze vai vestir uma criação de Karl Lagerfeld em sua performance no Lago dos Cisnes. Ela elogia a criação dizendo: Nós sempre dizemos que a roupa é 50% de como você vai dançar, então é muito importante vestir uma roupa bonita.

Durante uma prova da roupa que precisou de 3 mulheres e 100 horas para ser criada, Elena resolveu dançar no Haute Couture Salon da Maison Chanel.

Elena Glurdjidze will be combining a Karl Lagerfeld (Chanel’s Designer) creation with her ballet in a “Swan Lake” performance, something that she seems to be thrilling her. She complimented the design, stating “We always say that the look is 50% of how you’re going to dance, so it’s very important to have a beautiful costume”.

The dress took 3 women and 100 hours of sewing to be created. Elena decided to dance with it in the “Haute Couture Salon da Maison Chanel”. (The video can be seen above)
